North Canyon

Don Ackerman, the general manager for our Santa Barbara County vineyards, Cat Canyon and North Canyon, describes the style of Santa Barbara Wine Company:

While I have great respect for the wines produced throughout the North Coast, I would say that our limiting soils produce less vigorous vine growth. So without a great deal of canopy manipulation, the fruit in our vineyards receives more exposure to sunlight. This produces wines which have a more vivid fruit character.

While some North Coast wines are like a three-piece suit, where the fruit character may be subdued by heavy-handed oak or over-manipulation in the winery, our wines are more like an aloha shirt: a true expression of the wonderful Santa Barbara terroir.
